Holiday Cheer for Seniors

December 24

It’s that time of year again—-Holiday Cheer for Seniors!
Christmas Eve morning, we come together at Unity of Washington, DC to prepare and deliver gift bags with holiday meals, drugstore/supermarket gift cards, and holiday cards to area seniors. The food for meals and gift cards are donated by congregants.
The holiday cards are made by the children in our Sunday school.
Holiday Cheer for Seniors is an opportunity for us to serve seniors who mostly do not have friends and family around with whom to celebrate the holiday. The seniors come to us through Capitol Hill Group Ministries and AARP’s Legal Consul for the Elderly. This year we will serve approximately 300 seniors.
Our menu is turkey, ham, dressing, vegetables, bread, and dessert. We would like for the food to be home-made, but will accept store-prepared food. The ready-to-serve food needs to be delivered in disposable containers to Unity by Christmas Eve (Tuesday, December 24), 9 am. If necessary, your contributions may be dropped-off a few days earlier.
Participation Opportunities:
1. Food-Prepare food or purchase store-prepared food
2. Serve-Meet 9:30 am in the fellowship hall to serve the meals
3. Pack-Meet 9:45 am in the fellowship hall to pack meals and gifts
4. Deliver-Meet 10:30 am in the fellowship hall to deliver meals and gifts
5. Donate-$10 supermarket and drug store gift cards by Sunday, December 22
Choose how you would like to participate and sign-up! We will be available at a table after service each Sunday from November 3 until December 22 for sign-ups, cash donations, gift cards, and to provide information.
Please contact me if you know a Washington, DC senior we should serve.
