Thurman: Mysticism & Social Justice

October 16 @ 7:00 pm EDT

Thurman: Mysticism & Social Justice (An IN-PERSON Class)
WEDNESDAYS, OCTOBER 16 thru NOVEMBER 6 ~ 7pm – 9pm
Facilitator: Rev. Celeste A. Frazier, Associate Minister

Howard Thurman was a 20th century religious leader and thinker whose prophetic vision and quiet mentorship were instrumental to Martin Luther King Jr. and many others in the struggle for freedom and justice. His life and work reveal the synergy between mystic spirituality and social action – personal and social transformation in one. Through discussion, readings, audio and video resources, we will explore the relevance of Thurman’s wisdom for contemporary times, and for each participant’s individual life journey.

The class is four weeks. Readings include Vincent Harding’s introduction to “For the Inward Journey”, “All Life is One” and “We Are All One” from “Meditations of the Heart”, “Mysticism and Social Change” in “For the Inward Journey” and Dr. Liza Rankow’s essay: “Mysticism & Social Action: The Ethical Demands of Oneness”, and more!
